" CHRISTMAS PORTRAIT "

8 x 8 Pen , pencil & watercolor

Well here we are a year later doing the Different Strokes From Different Folks Christmas portrait exchange again. We were given a picture of an other artist participating, so I am painting her and she is painting me. It is a surprise for both of us. For this one I have to admit I was influence by Alice Thompson with her decorative flair she applies sometimes to her work. My subject has the most beautiful green eyes so my decision to make her sweater green also was easy.
Please go check out all the entries so far with their actual pictures on U-Tube
I truly enjoyed doing this piece I hope my subject likes it too.

Very, very nice, Dominique. I think your subject has a little twinkle in her eye and I love the way you made the background twinkle with her. Love the yellow green, as well.

Dominique, this is very nice! I'm sure she'll be very pleased when she sees herself. I also want to thank you for mentioning Alice Thompson. I had never seen her work and just popped over to look at an owl that she did. I loved it!

Hi Dominique. Wasn't this "end of year" challenge fun? I found DSFDF just after the deadline last year so I didn't participate. I don't know if I would have had the courage then!

Folk like you & the other kind DSFDF-ers have given me the freedom and strength to participate. THANK YOU for being so nice to me.

Happy holidays!
Ken B.

Terrific job, Dominique! Love the way you only put color in her sweater and eyes. Very creative and I love that cool background!

This is stunning Dominique. I knew the moment I saw it that it was your work. You have a unique line that I first noticed in your rendition of Karin's Jack. That "decorative" background is all you Dominique. Your blog has a history filled with that style you refer to as "doodles".

Gwen,
Alice,

Your both are so very kind thank you. I appreciate so much this artist's fellowship we have in DSFDF.

A great way to emphasize her green eyes - make green the only color in the piece. Very creative, Dominique.

Love the whimsical background. I need to check out Alice's work. Your approach to portrait is also unique. I may try something like that in the future.

Such a unique way of facing this years dsfdf challenge, using just the color green with the rest of the drawing and the way you did the bg is wonderful!

Hello Dominique, Thx for your comment. I think the entries of this challenge have a high level in general. What I like about yours is that you paid attention to the background. It's something that almost everybody forgot, but it gives the portrait an extra dimension. Happy New Year ! Luc Schuddinck, Belgium.
