" GRACE "

                                                    8  x  10    Oil

This is Grace my chocolate labrador. I have many pictures of her but until now I had never done an oil painting of her or any other animal btw.
I have to say the original painting looks so much better. I had a hard time adjusting the browns it was getting so green and red.
Oh well, here she is looking as I'm getting ready to go and wondering will I take her with me ?
BTW I purposefully choose a picture that was somewhat blurry because I wanted a more painterly feel, as I had to just make up some of the areas. It forces me to just paint with out being too precise. I have a tendency to be exact so I try to find ways to get me in the opposite direction.

With 4 dogs in the house, I very well know this expression. You've done a beautiful job on her fur; the colors just gorgeous! Well done, Dominique!

Grace is wonderful, love that universal look our pets give us, checking out the situation out of the corner of their eyes. Love your warm palette, too, well done, Dominique!

Oh Dominique - I love this! Yes - it's a familiar expression - I see my shepherd looking at me often with the same curious, pleading, eyes - just waiting for the word she is to be included! The colors are rich and you did a great job with composition and the tight crop! Love the way she fills the space on the canvas just as she fills it in your heart!

I love it when I can read a dogs mind and you captured it here.
I switch to bigger brushes to force myself to be less exact but I like your blurry photo idea as well. Now that I am older I should probably just try drawing without my glasses on.
